Algebra 2 throws open the
door to higher-level math classes like Pre-Calc and college-level calculus. But
even calling it “Algebra 2” makes it sound it like we are just tying up some
unfinished business from freshman year, and that’s NOT what we are here to do.
So, we’re going to call it mathography instead, because everything we’re doing
this year takes multiple forms and is achievable through more than one
“process.” And we’re going to write, draw, record, represent etc. our own
mathographies. Think of them as maps of your brain and of your heart.
I don’t care how well you
can answer test questions. Well, I do. I want you guys to succeed and pass and
graduate. But at the end of the year, using math but also using
everything else we know, we are going to answer the following questions:
What makes you tick?
Why do you exist?
What will you achieve?
Why do you matter?
I will be writing my mathography as you write yours. Mine will probably be "wordier," because I like to write. But your mathography might be an art installation. It might be a film. It might be a spoken word poem. Who am I to tell you what it should look or sound like?
Think of your mathography as your personal statement in its least-boring form.
